Brewer's Description:
"Who would have thought deep in the jungles of Papua New Guinea and Madagascar grew the perfect ingredient to build an extraordinary Porter in Colorado? An ale that has all the chocolate and roasted nut flavor of a classic Porter, with an enigmatic surprise thrown in for good measure, real vanilla bean. Breckenridge Brewery’s Vanilla Porter. A vanilla kiss in a rich, dark sea."

The reviews for this beer go from a hint of vanilla to overpowering. I thought the vanilla was in the middle of those extremes and balanced well with the chocolate/ coffee/nutty flavors. A refreshing change from the usual porters with toned down bitterness probably due to the vanilla. Nice beer overall.

Simply put ... this is one nice brew! This brew pours up a near pitch black body with a good 1-finger head. Aromas of vanilla (duh!) and coffee match up to the well-balanced flavors of vanilla and coffee in this brew. The body is smooth, creamy and has just the right amount of 'thickness' that one would want is this great brew! Pair this bad boy up with grilled steaks or smoked meats or even some wild game for dinner and you'll be on the Bliss Express!

Nice smooth taste with the lingering hint of vanilla. Good winter beer but I wouldn't drink multiple in one sitting.

Had a few of these at the company Christmas dinner. They were excellent with the sirloin. The vanilla adds sweetness that you usually don't get in a porter. The bitter roast flavors are subdued but this is still a nice malty beer.

I enjoyed the vanilla and chocolate flavors of this beer, but a porter ought to have some roasted coffee flavor that this is lacking. There is also some funky thing going on in the finish that I can't put my finger on.. Maybe it is the nuts.. Nice smooth and creamy mouthfeel.

Pours very dark (as expected for a porter), with a decent, light-colored head. The lacing on this one is fantastic! The smell is strongly of malt and vanilla, and the taste is overpowering in its syrupy, vanilla-y taste. There are lingering notes of chocolate, with minimal nuttiness, contrary to a traditional porter. These flavors are too minimal for my tastes, and the vanilla is so heavy that it is almost medicinal. The name teased me, but the taste let me down.
