High ABV which kind of went to my head quicker than expected, but very strong flavor, I can't quite place the flavors involved being that it kind of smacks you all at once. I like it!

I think I was expecting a brown ale, which is usually mellow and non bitter. That is not what I recieved. I recieved quite an assault of hops, with some caramel malt drownng underneath. If I order a whopper, I dont want some chicken in a clown suit jumping out at me. That is why I drink, to make these nasty images GO AWAY.

I was suprised to see previous good reviews of this beer when I went to review it. For me, the alcohol flavor overwhelmed the rest of the beer, making it hard to get any really distinct flavors from it, and making it hard to drink more than one or two. The first sip is that of a nice brown ale, but the further you go, the worse it gets. Won't be buying at again.

Had this at a beer tasting at the local bottle shop. Very potent flavor that would probably be called an Imperial Brown Ale if it were made by anyone else. Rather thick body. Very heavy on chocolate and caramel. More hops than the average Brown Ale.

When I tried this, I thought I was drinking a porter or a stout. It is thick and syrupy and not like any brown ale I've ever tried.High ABV does help the taste.Because this is called a brown ale,it loses points. If this were a porter,I would say it was pretty good.

Smooth, mellow, fairly complex - another good one by Dogfish Head.

I think we need to break down the brewer's description.. If a beer were a combination of a Scotch Ale, IPA, and APA would it taste like a Brown Ale? I don't think so.. This beer is clearly a brown ale because of the smooth, big malt flavor that tastes like dark chocolate and oak. What makes this one different is the hop backbone and high alcohol content that is pretty well hidden. Very good beer and different.. Back to back beers by DFH are going straight to my brain's "fun center".
