Beer Bottle
Brewer's Description:
"Hobgoblin is a powerful full-bodied copper red, well-balanced brew. Strong in roasted malt with a moderate hoppy bitterness and slight fruity character that lasts through to the end. Head Brewer, Jeremy Moss, has produced a full chocolate malt flavour beer by the addition of a small proportion of crystal malt and the use of Fuggles hops blended with Styrian Goldings hops. The ruby red coloured Hobgoblin is full-bodied and has a delicious chocolate toffee malt flavour balanced with a rounded moderate bitterness and an overall fruity character."

Nice amber to red hue to this one that pours with decent head and a little bit of lacing. Smells nice and malty, and tastes just the same. I really don't detect too much of the hops, but it's not overly sweet, either. This is a pretty darn good example of the style. I also thought it got better as it wasn't refrigerator cold. The sweetness emerges more, and I like it more!

The appearance is a dark amber / dark ruby red sporting a nice frothy head that lasts for the entire beer; with nice lacing throughout. Scent and flavor reminiscent of toffee with just enough hops to finish it off nice and smooth. Definitely one of those all-day beers… one that you can enjoy all day! Oddly though… I found myself enjoy the beer after it warmed up just a tad!

When drunk from a glass poured from the bottle I can taste a bit of the chocolate, some of the roast malt, and a lot of bitterness that doesn't linger. There are better dark ales out there, so buy a single of Hobgoblin only for the cool label. One of the many eclectic beers sold at Cost Plus in Southern California.

There is no excitement going on here.I taste some fruityness, but where's the chocolate? This beer could use more bitterness less sweet malt and more ABV.I paid too much for a 6pk and I'm not enjoying it much.It tastes like sour apple juice after the 1st bottle.

Smells like the coffee aisle of the grocery store. Tastes lightly of smoke and wood. Very crisp and without any evildoer flavors so it's very drinkable.
