Beer Bottle
Brewer's Description:
Samuel Adams Boston Lager® is the best example of the fundamental characteristics of a great beer, offering a full, rich flavor that is both balanced and complex. It is brewed using a decoction mash, a time consuming, traditional four vessel brewing process discarded by many contemporary brewers. This process brings forth a rich sweetness from the malt that makes it well worth the effort. Samuel Adams Boston Lager® also uses only the finest of ingredients including two row barley, as well as German Noble aroma hops. The exclusive use of two row barley not only imparts a full, smooth body but also gives the beer a wide spectrum of malt flavor ranging from slightly sweet to caramel to slightly roasted. The Noble hops varieties, Hallertau Mittelfruh and Tettnang Tettnanger, add a wide range of floral, piney and citrus notes, which are present from the aroma, through the flavor, to the lingering smooth finish. We take great pride in the Noble hops used in our beers. They are hand selected by Jim Koch and our other brewers from the world’s oldest hops growing area. Among the world’s most expensive, they cost twenty times as much as other hops.

I can't believe that I have done over 2,000 reviews and somehow missed this one.. Boston Lager has a grassy hop flavor that seems to dominate, although it's not overbearing. Finishes with a little bit of sweetness. It's not bad, not great. I still like Negra Modelo better for the style and the price...

Let's cut to the chase. Yes, it's a good beer, but is it a great beer, No. It sells because it's a solid micro that everyone loves and their market (The Northeast) is huge.

Good run-of-the-mill beer. Decent coloration and good malty scent, for a lager. There's a good amount of hops in their, too, for a balanced beer. It's crisp and easy to drink, so it goes well on a warm day or with snack food while watching the ol' ball game.

It's funny that reviews for this beer are relatively short and lack the detailed description of the aroma and flavor. I think this is because there is not anything overly distictive about them. It's got some caramel and other robust malt tastes up front, then these blend into a strong hoppy aftertaste. Somewhat simply, but very good indeed.

Clean and neat with a light hops taste and a slight bitterness that doesn't linger. A good drinking beer with food or just on a hot day. A great first Sam Adams beer to try.

This is a good lager. It has flavor, but doesn't have any unpleasant skunkiness or aftertastes.I would choose this over most lagers out there.

A good transition beer if you are coming from the world of macrobrews. This will introduce you to the concept of "hops". A good lager, but not really special. At least it is a viable alternative when you are in the land of "we have both kinds of beer...Miller and Bud."

I liked this lager. Although I think there are Samuel Adams brews that TO ME taste better. I dont know how to explain it so I wont even try.

Pretty good. Nice hoppy flavor. Too bad restaurants price it like an import.
