My first black lager and it compares to Dunkels and Bocks. If you're into bold flavor without too much body, this is a good beer to throw down. As a new favorite, Shiner never ceases to amaze me on taste and affordability.

Although average, this is one of the better beers I have had by this brewery. It has a lightly sweet, roasted malt flavor. It is certainly not complex as the brewer states, but it does have some good drinkability going for it.

What an awesome black lager! The more I try of this style, the more Im starting to really love a hearty black lager. When poured, it looks like Texas Tea with an incredible foamy head that lingers for the entire serving leaving pleasing lace rings on the glass. What captured my senses was its deep, dark malt smell. It has an enjoyable flavor; having a nice crisp hoppy bite but none of that bitterness normally associated with the black malt. Dont expect a porter or stout when having this beer! Otherwise youd think it was thinned out a tad. But this is definitely one black lager to have on-hand and enjoy!

Gotta disagree with AW. Nothing really that special. All it really is, is a darker and maltier shiner bock. It's okay but their bock is much, much better.
