I was disappointed with this beer.It is so mildly smoked that I can hardly taste it.If you want to taste a real smoked beer, you've got to try a Schlenkerla Urbock. It will have you dreaming of flying burnt pigs and BBQ without having to fire up a grill.

I was very prepared to hate this beer. The other smoked german beer I tried gave me nightmares of tiny burnt pigs swimming in bottles. Okay, so maybe I have my own problems outside of the beer, but thats another story. This smoked lager was definitely more.. approachable. Milder smokiness, and the other flavors could communicate. Hello Malts and Hops- its nice to see you here. The other party was a smoked pig fest, and I couldnt find you anywhere!

I have only had a couple of German Rauchbiers. The last one was Schlenkerla's Marzen which is undrinkable for me. This one has a much mellower character and is fairly light. The flavor of this dark beer is dominated by the smoke flavor, but a little bit of caramel from the malts comes through. Wouldn't want a bunch of these, but 1 was interesting.

Had another one of these and I have to upgrade my rating a bit. I could definitely drink a bunch of these and I am enoying this quite a bit.
