It seemed normal enough when President Obama chatted with a coffee shop patron about beer in Iowa Tuesday. The president has shown he's a fan of beer — and it's the most politically expedient, "everyman" beverage a candidate can drink. But then the president told a man at Knoxville, Iowa's Coffee Connection cafe that he travels with his own home-brew — and gave him a bottle to prove it.

Yeah, I heard about this. I got a feeling he has nothing to do with it, other than what he wants it to taste like. I say it's a way to show he's your everyday man, making beer, chillin out, still smokin...pffff... all smoke and mirrors.
Sure enough, someone will start circulating an "official" homebrew recipe with the Obama brew claim... Poop on him, and his beer. I'll have a budweiser....ok, not really, but screw him anyway.

I'm sure he's not the brewmaster or involved much at all. They probably have someone that they are way overpaying to brew it. _________________ I drink to forget my blackouts. |

Grrr.. I'd do it. Special brew just for him, brewed with arsenic and dry-hopped with mercury.

If you want the recipes for the White House brews which consist of a Honey Ale and a Honey Porter, here they are:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/image/wh_beer_recipe_1.pdf
I think it would kick ass if a member brewed 1 or both of these and let us know what they are like. Maybe I should do the honey ale? _________________ I drink to forget my blackouts. |

Yeah, I saw those the other day too. I was trying to figure out the numbers, but it seemed like a lot of fermentables, 6# of dry, 1# of liquid, plus a pound of honey.. And with fairly mild hops, it must be one sweet ale, probably too sweet for me.
And because they are extracts, I wouldn't brew them. I hate to sound like a brew snob, but I am just very anti-extract, regardless of how good the beer is. I'll drink them, but I only use extracts for starters.
I think this is a perfect excuse for you to brew again J. I think you should brew both. The honey ale would be ready in 2 weeks, and you could then do the porter and let it conditon in secondary for a few weeks into early November.
