I can't stand 99% of the light beers I've tried.Guinness draught at 125 calories seems like the best taste vs.calorie option when I'm not trying a new beer or wanting a certain style.I've also been experimenting with hard liquor like scotch whiskey.I don't know how many calories are in scotch, but I feel less bloated when I drink it and I consume much less liquid at a sitting.I am drinking it straight or on the rocks.Hard liquor is a bit dangerous though because you get to the fun zone very quickly! Any thoughts, ideas or what not?

I have switched to Natural Light and when I told some of my friends about it they switched too. It has absolutely NO flavor. It just tastes like water and it only has 95 calories, but still comes in at 4.4%. At Safeway, I can get a 30 pack of it for about $15... _________________ I drink to forget my blackouts. |

Natty Lights aren't too bad.Like sloshed said,no flavor is better when it comes to the cheaper beers.I did some research and scotch has about 100 calories per shot (1 1/2 oz). That means I can drink that instead of flavorless beer as another option. Now, I have to figure out which scotch tastes the best for the price. It is definately worth the trip to New Hampshire, from where I'm at, for hard liquor. The bottle of whiskey I bought there a few weeks ago costs almost twice as much here.

You should absolutly pick up a bottle of The Macallan 12. And also, Glenfiddich is another amazing dram..
As for beers, as biased as I am, I go with Sam Adams Light... I can't stand most other light beers... I'll sacrifice the calories for much better taste.. _________________ .

Scotch has @ 69 calories per ounce. You can find calorie counts on many sites; I prefer Livingstrong.com's Daily Plate |

| I'm the douchebag of the group, I guess -- a skinny beer drinker. Yeah, I know the old saying about not trusting a skinny beer drinker, but I MORE than hold my own in both the quantity and quality that I drink. I'm glad, too, because I HATE scotch. |

Then you haven't found the right Scotch...
If you have a good shop near you, ask for a mellow, less peety type.. Usually, it's the peet bog taste that makes people not enojy one of the finest drinks on the planet.. _________________ .

I found a pub in Portland,Maine(Bull Feeneys) that has a big selection of Scotch. There seems to be 6 different regions in Scotland with each having it's own individual taste.
They are:
West Highlands & Islands
The Lowlands
Islay
Speyside
North Highlands & Islands
East Highlands
I will always love beer first, but Scotch Whisky seems to be closely related to beer,it being made from similar ingredients. _________________ Beer Is Bread |

I think you guys would like Glenfiddich 12 to start. It is a very mellow, almost bland Scotch without any harshness really. It's not too expensive, and you can get nip sized bottles to lower the intial investment..
For information on Scotch, check out this site...

Good info on the different regions and their differences..... _________________ .

I'm looking forward to trying that Glenfiddich 12.I'm trying a Jameson Irish Whiskey right now which is pretty good.It was really good in a cup of coffee the other day. Thanks, Ricka, for that Scotch weblink, BTW.

I have tried so many times to fall in love with scotch, but it just doesn't take. We have literally had several "Let's learn to like scotch" drinking events and I just can't do it. I can drink anything - I'm a garbage can. I just don't enjoy it like many others. But I do love the shit that BrewDog is doing with scotch barrels and their imperial stouts.
If someone starts whiskeytutor.com, we should definitely partner up.. _________________ I drink to forget my blackouts. |

Beertutor is a one-of-a-kind site,IMO.I've been visiting that Scotch lover's site and other than a little bit of info, the rest of the site is pretty lame, esp. the forums.Sloshed will have to start a whiskeytutor site someday when he's looking to expand ,I guess.

As much as I love beer, and I fucking love beer....if I had to lose all my beer and brewing for life, but instead have an unlimited supply of whatever Scotch and whiskey I wanted, I would not cry.. _________________ .
