A friend sent me this article.
http://www.thestar.com/travel/article/1207138--beer-and-travel-top-14-cities-for-beer-drinkers

I didn't realize at first that this was written by Frommers. Makes me feel even more confident about our travel site TripTutor. Judas, all they had to do was pick 14 good places and pull all of the descriptions from their travel guides. Instead, they got about 8 out of 14 and a couple of those (Dublin) are questionable. Dublin is only questionable because it isn't all that great unless you are a Guinness fan. Prague wouldn't be fun if you don't like Saaz hops.

Here are the ones I took serious issue with:

Melbourne - They even listed Victoria Bitters! See my review of that awful beer.
Wisconsin - Wisconsin makes a ton of beers and nearly all of them are bad. No extra points for barrels produced per year.
Mexico City - Only 1 good beer there (Negra Modelo) and you can get that in much safer parts of Mx, or better yet, at a supermarket in the US. I'll pass on Negra and a bullet.
Tokyo - Has an up and coming craft beer scene, but its young and not good enough to make them qualify for any list except for "Best Place to Get Rice Beer". Plus, the sheer expense makes it not list worthy.
Hanoi - The article should have read, "The most popular brands are Shuke, Garbage, Phlegm Ball, and Sewer Rat". They go on to say that they put ice in their 3% beer. This should be in the "Top 1 Worst Places to Drink Beer" list.
Vienna - "Can’t think of an Austrian beer? Well, that’s probably because the best beers in Vienna come from boutique microbreweries, so you won’t find them outside Europe". (Insert buzzer sound).. You can find some of them here, but the truth is that nobody wants them. Their best beers are only slightly above average on ratings sites. And as coincidence and irony would have it, I am drinking a Stiegl that my wife got me from world market as I write this. Guess what? It's crap!

For the record, instead of those 6, I would have chosen in no particular order:

1) Copenhagen, Denmark
2) London, UK
3) Denver, Colorado
4) San Diego, California
5) Montreal, Quebec
6) Koln, Germany

Runners up (that probably could have replaced Dublin and Prague):
Pick a city in Michigan
Boston, Massachusetts
Asheville, North Carolina

Boston in the house!!!

Woot! I totally agree with you J.. That's not the most accurate list. I would never go to Vietnam for beer..WTF is that crap! Japan has Asahi, but not worth a trip just for that. Germany would be my number one beer spot..

Ha! I knew that article would get a rise out of you. I can only say that Dublin pubs have AWFUL food, but awesome Guinness (at least it's fresh)...but every other young person there drank Budweiser. Ugh. And you should definitely write your own list.

Not sure about the Pulitzer, but way ahead of you on the beer part. Cool
I started writing it and realized this is going to take a long while because I don't want write anything as shitty as the above and this is going to be very in-depth. I promise this will be the best beer city top list ever, and if its not, you can shoot me in the face (told you I was drinking).. Laugh
