After reading Frommer's and other awful top beer cities lists, I decided we needed one here. I won't claim that this is perfect, just better.

There's more than just BBC in Boston, but they are the most well known for sure. Plus Boston is a lot smaller than other cities, and there are many breweries just outside of the city. Overall, I think New England is the best region for beer worldwide. You can stray a bit into upstate NY to pick up some Ommegang and Ithaca, but with the full 6 states of New England, there isn't a beer style you cant find soemwhere.
J, you're a homer. _________________ .

Boston is a big city. Bigger than every one on the list other than Philly. For Boston to win, they would need Portland or San Diego numbers of breweries and they just don't - not even close. That was the main reason for not making it.

That's possible. But come out here and I'll show you around. This is what your face will look like.. _________________ I drink to forget my blackouts. |

I will head West someday..
I would love to see that many breweries in Boston. I would drink a different brewery each week.. _________________ .

I just read over Zane Lampreys list of the top 25 beer cities. I'm honored to see Boston ranked number 9.. and, your hometown J?.. Ranked number 3 overall, first American city. It'e behind Munich and Brussels, probably based on tradition.
The list is actually pretty cool, anmd has a few surprises...Seoul, SK? It's there at #11. Tokyo at @25.. I love DME... Great show.. _________________ .

It all depends on the criteria for the list. Mine is more for the types of people that would participate on a site like this which would include a lot of beer hunters, reviewers, home brewers, and other people that are really nutty about beer.
I love DME too, but Zane is perfectly happy drinking whatever the local Budweiser is when he travels, and that is why his list has some places I just couldn't include like Mexico City, Seoul, Saigon, Melbourne, etc. They wouldn't even make my top 25 list. They might be nice settings to enjoy a beer, they might have a ton of bars, they might drink a ton of beer, but it doesn't mean it would be a rewarding beer destination for people like us. It might be a great vacation, but that isn't enough to make the list when you are stuck drinking crappy beer.
I think I need to revisit San Francisco and Boston to make sure I still agree with my choices. _________________ I drink to forget my blackouts. |

I'd say we're always open, but we have a uber-deusch mayor who closes everything at 2am.
I'm planning on a West coast road trip someday in the next 5 years. I want to fly out to San Diego, then start driving up I-5, and eventually fly out of Seattle. _________________ .

Hey Sloshed, if you revisit Boston perhaps you, Ricka, and I could meet up for a beer? Beerwench would be invited too, of course.

For the record.. When I said revisit, I meant re-research..
I've actually never been to Boston. Would love to do a road trip starting in NYC along the coast to Portland, ME. Then up to Montreal and down through upstate NY. Road trips up there seem awesome because the states are so small and you don't have 300 miles of boring driving between cool places like you do over here. We've talked a lot about doing this trip.. Maybe next year we'll do it and you guys can get us drunk east coast style.. _________________ I drink to forget my blackouts. |

Cheers on that bud.. Once you visit Boston, you'll never be the same. Not sure if I mean that in a good way or a bad way...lol _________________ .
