Okay, so maybe not everyone here is a basketball fan. Maybe you hate basketball. Maybe you hate Boston sports too. Not saying y'all do, but understandably, I know we seem to have a 'love us or hate us' sentiment from most of the country. Back in the 1950's, a man came to Boston, and became a hero, an idol, a true character in the city; winning 8 consecutive NBA titles, and being the archtitect of 7 more. He was respected and revered in and out of sports. I ask that if you're reading this, to find some time today, to have a beer. Now usually, we have many beers on Sunday. But at some point, raise the glass and offer a toast to a man who left us yesterday, after giving and giving and giving, and always just being himself, undeniably, Red. Arnold "Red" Auerbach died Saturday, of a heartattack in Washington. He was 89 years old. Thanks Red....

I'm not really a basketball fan, but that guy was a legend. Cheers.

The man was responsible not only for a proud franchise, but really spearheaded the change for racial equality in sports. The first to put an all black starting five on the floor. The first to have a black head coach. His social contributions are as important, if not more, than his contributions to the game.

He will be sorely missed. Cheers!

The Celtics are planning a tribute at the season opener tonight in Boston. I might be at the game, probably not though....if you watch Sportscenter, you can see it if you're interested. He really was a great man, both in sports and life. As KV mentioned, there was no such thing as race to Red. If the man can play, the man should play. Color meant nothing to him, he just wanted to win. I don't believe there will ever be a man so influential, or successful in any professional sport, ever again.....cheers.. Drink Beer Bottle
