Sorry I haven't been around much.. There is an asshole that has relentlessly been hacking our server for the last 10 days and I still haven't found a way to stop it..

Anyway, I am going on vacation to Hawaii for 2 weeks - 1 week in Maui and 1 week in Kauai. I assume I will be drinking a lot of beers by Kona and hopefully I will find some other oddities.

Will be checking in periodically.

Well, in Jason's defense, the last two vacations were so exhausting, that he really needs this one to unwind. Of course, there will be a drunken wedding, and then a week with 5 other hard-drinkers after the wedding, so he may need another vacation soon.

Do you think his liver even exists at this point? I hope so, because we're taking him to the "World's Westernmost Brewpub", the Waimea Brewing Company, while we're there. When Blitzfan & I went there last time, the beer kinda sucked, but it's his sworn duty to try every beer ever made. Plus, for him it's a tax write off. Bastard.

Well, you are here with me now and we can do an inspection and see what's left... Smile

I'd been to Maui before and I have to say it was pretty disappointing this time. A ton of strip malls and fast food joints have appeared in the last 7 years and it is very crowded.

Now we are in Kauai which has been a downshift to 1st gear and has been very relaxing. As for the beer situation - We have tried at least 10 different Hawaiian beers and they all suck. I mean really suck. These people know as much about making beer as I do about harvesting Tarot root and making Poi (which also really sucks). Its not all bad news though - there are several Oregon and Washington beers that are very popular here - Widmer Hefeweizen, RedHook ESB, and Full Sail Pale Ale. They also have our Tillamook cheese which rocks.

Tomorrow I think we are having lunch at the Waimea brewery which I have heard serves up some more awful island beer.

Hope you all are keeping the beer drinking dream alive. Beer

We did, indeed, make it out to the Wiamea Brewing Co, and the beer was as bad as I remembered. The IPA wasn't horrible, but most of their stuff was definitely in the 'never to be tried again' pile. I think Jason found a couple that he liked...he wrote everything down on a napkin. We've been picking up a lot of Widmer Hef and Drop Top Amber Ale in the stores.

The house we are staying at here in Kauai is just across from the beach, behind the houses of Pierce Brosnan and the drummer from REO Speedwagon (really, the royalties are THAT good?). So far, no James Bond sightings, but I'd like to invite him over for a beer.

We are back..

Kauai was awesome and amazingly beautiful. The beer situation was pretty much the same there as on Maui. We did find a Coconut Porter by Maui brewing company that was pretty good, but most everything else was barely drinkable.

Got a lot of catching up to do on this site, so bear with me. I will be getting to your beer submissions pretty soon. Beer
