After more than 30 years of deliberation, federal regulators have proposed requiring the alcoholic-beverage industry to put nutrition and alcohol-content labels on their containers, setting off the equivalent of a barroom brawl among makers of beer, wine and liquor.
Pushed by consumer groups, the U.S. Treasury Department's Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau for the first time would mandate disclosure of how many carbohydrates and calories and how much protein and fat alcoholic drinks contain, as food labels do. How and where to disclose alcohol content is generating heat.

I imagine that this new reg will hurt the small microbreweries the most since they have the least amount of money to invest in conforming to these new regs.Another attempt to squeeze the small guys out and force us to drink the macro-crap, no doubt. |

That's a very good point.. I have talked to a couple of brewers who have said that kind of testing is very expensive.. On top of all the taxes they are already shouldering, it may very well put some out of business.. Damn government! _________________ I drink to forget my blackouts. |

The government does suck.....not only will this hurt the small craft brewer, but I'm sure there will be some people who pretend they didn't know beer wasn't calorie free....those people will probably stop drinking beer because they think it makes them fat; when in reality, it's the late night twinkies and eating a full plate at most restaurants that makes them fat......
The government should force restaurants to either lower their portion sizes, or do the same and post all the info, on the menu.... _________________ .

Agreed -- although I work (part-time) at a national sit-down burger chain that wouldn't really like the stats to get out. |
