I read about that this morning, and from a business standpoint it makes sense. I love how they call Blue Moon a "craft beer". Somehow I don't think this is going to change the taste of their products. _________________ kidvelvet

| Blue Moon is worse than their regular crap beers! They should just stay away from craft beers, but of course, they won't if they smell money. |

Molson/Coors trying to make a Belgian White is like Hollywood trying to remake Monty Python's,The Holy Grail. Cheers. |

Don't get me wrong, I would rate Blue Moon a lot, lot lower than other fine Belgian Wits, but it's cheap, and better than Bud, so I drank it. I really like Whirlwind from Victory, and of course, Allagash White is tremedously good.... _________________ .

| Agreed, ricka! Whirlwind is better, but Blue Moon isn't bad, especially for the price! |

When I was in Indiana visiting my mom, the bartender at the Irish Pub we were at was trying to tell me that Blue Moon was a microbrew up to my 'Portland standards'. It wasn't the worst thing I've ever had, but certainly not good enough for my spoiled taste buds.
Come to think of it, why was I ordering something other than Guinness in an Irish Pub?!? |

Dont know if this is true or not but my Dad said the the price of Hops and Barley (?) are going to go up 300% by the end of 2007. Which in turn is going to raise the price of beer considerably. Let us know if this is true if you can guys. _________________ I am not an alcoholic. I am a consumer of recreational beverages. I do not drink to get drunk. I drink to enjoy. |

I have seen published articles that shows a price increase forthcoming. Can't vouch for the 300%, but I know an increase is on its way. |

There was a report a while back about the increase for barley. It said it would be a few months before it hit the consumer beer markets....looks like it's probably going to within another few months...makes more sense to brew your own.... _________________ .

Apparently, this deal went through.. I tried to go to Miller's old site to get info on a beer and was directed to the new one at:

Weird...I thought I heard something about the merger, and then checked yesterday and found the same site. I guess it is just the US operations, but now with AB under IB, they'll need the size to compete......then again, seeing as this is, while known as just MillerCoors here, it's as we know, a SabMiller, and MolsonCoors joint venture...so there's 4 big brewers combined to make one sort of.....
I could care less...commercial beer is becoming less and less attractive. I'm so much more into craft style beers. I would say Boston Beer is probably the biggest company that could still be considered a craft brewer. But with the recent explosion in popularity, I don't know how long the big beers will go before they break up again to make a higher quality beer. Myself, as known, brew my own, so even if they all went away, I'd still ahve my precious, precious liquid of life.....
On a side note, Jim Koch released today that his Boston Beer Company sold approx $8M more beer than the same time last year..... _________________ .

On the Boston Beer Company note, I received an email that the scores for the LongShot competition are in the mail, so I should be getting mine soon, and will be sure to share the results! |
