Hi all. Trying to find either Hatuey or La Tropical Beer. Both were formerly brewed in Cuba before Castro took over and are now brewed in the US. Hatuey is brewed by Bacardi. I'm mainly looking in either the Cincinnati, Indianpolis or Chicago areas. Not too sure how they are but I'm having a large Cuban party and was told by some restaurant folks that they are good for that authentic feel....and that they aren't a half bad pilsner. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

La Tropical is made at one of my local brewery's (Yuengling) Tampa, FL location, and you can find info at http://www.cervezatropical.com/.

Hatuey can be found at www.hatuey.com, and interestingly enough, was mentioned in Hemingway's "For Whom the Bells Toll."

As far as where you can purchase it, I was unable to find any information on that, but I'll keep looking -- I would like to give these brews a try, considering one has a local connection of sorts for me and another was obviously enjoyed by one of the greatest writers of all time.

I would try Friar Tuck -- they have places in Bloomington, Savoy, Springfield, and Peoria, IL. Check out their site, www.friartuckonline.com first and maybe give them a call.

More specifically, it looks like La Tropical is only sold to Cuban restaurants.. Here is a list of them on their site:
http://www.cervezatropical.com/id4.html

I would contact one of those restaurants and find out if they can sell you some, or find out who their distributor is and try them..

Hatuey's website is worthless, so I would suggest getting in touch with Bacardi to see if they can tell you where to purchase it..
