As some of you know,I've been delving into the world of whiskies lately, mainly Irish & Scotch.I've just discovered Drambuie! Wow! It's a bit much straight up,but mix it with some scotch for a Rusty Nail drink and it's like a delicious, strong Scotch Ale.The only drawback is the added calories which can bring it up to what a good, strong beer would be.Still,it's a nice change when I'm looking for something other than a crappy lager. Most small pubs carry hard liquor & cheap lager,so I think I might've found a nice alternative for my first drink, at least.A boilermaker is whiskey with a beer chaser, which gives me another choice.I can start with a shot, then stomach the crap lagers much better.

Although I'll drink almost anything.

I don't drink liquor often, but when I do, it's SoCo.
(Read that line in the voice from the World's most interesting man from the Dos Equis commercials).

I haven't had Southern Comfort in years.I remember that it was very sweet.I will have to try it again sometime.Perhaps I can find a mix that would tone down the sweetness? I used to drink wine occasionally, years ago,but the after effects were horrible.Nowadays,I can't stand the sickly sweetnes of wine except for a small taste.Forget about getting a buzz on it.

8/2/10 Update: I just tried some SoCo and it's not too sweet anymore to me.It's sweet, like the Drambuie, but goes down good.I may experiment with some mixing using the SoCo,too, but it's good straight or with rocks.

I still think it is pretty damn sweet, but for whatever reason, I still enjoy it here and there.. Drink From Flask

SoCo is good stuff.. I prefer a good whiskey or Scotch if not beer though..

More adventures in Whiskyland: Drink From Flask
I've tried a few different ways to drink Scotch and my favorite is on the rocks with a bit of club soda. This mellows without masking the Scotch taste. When it comes to blended Scotch,go for the cheapest because I don't taste much difference between the brands.Stay tuned for more adventures by a beer lover into WhiskyWorld!

I've been doing some comparison between Whiskey and Whisky and I've decided that it is worth the slight extra $$ to drink Scotch instead of any other type of whisk(e)y.This is coming from a beer lover mind you,so take it for what it's worth.I won't refuse other whiskies if offered, but I definately prefer Scotch.

I made a mistake.Canadians also make Whisky, but it's not Scotch. It's just a blended whiskey.I had an Oban 14 Single Malt Scotch recently that was delicious!

Yes. It's very good. I had only the 10 y/o. It was rather strong and peaty. It's an Islay Scotch, so you can look up Islay to get more general information. I enjoyed, but I prefer a Speyside or a Highland over an Islay anyday.
