My wife got in today which was great because I was getting a little screwy by myself here. After a long nap, she woke up and said "Let's go get some beer". Damn she is cool.

So we went to Rembrandtplein and started in a black gay bar, which was totally cool except we really didn't fit in so good. I am sure that they had a good laugh after we left.. I would have too..

Anyway, something I noticed tonight about a lot of Amsterdam bars that is really stupid.. Most bars will have 5 or 6 taps, but they are all the same fucking beer. One place we went had 5 taps that were all Heineken. Why bother having 5 taps? Fortunately, they had SoCo which helped me get throught the Heineken (SoCo is pretty hard to find here). Another bar had 4 taps that were all Bavaria. WTF?

Anyway, we found an Irish pub that served us until 3:45am which was pretty good. Drink From Flask

That is a weird idea. Why the hell would they do that? Lazy bartenders don't want to change taps, I guess.

That's just stupid and it makes no sense to have 5 taps set up for the same beer.

Confused

Because you are really tired of drinking Iron City beer? I dunno.. I haven't seen it yet, but I am going to a special bottle shop on Tuesday and will look for it then..

Well I have been at the bottom of a bottle for the last few days.. A few nights ago, the wife and I went Belgian bar hopping (in Amsterdam). We wound up finishing the night at a Brown Cafe (Really old Dutch neighborhood type bar) called Gollem that specializes in Belgian beers. Tried quite a few that I had never heard of before and got completely loaded due to several Kopstoots, which mean "headbutt" and involves taking a shot of Dutch gin and pounding a beer. Had some good conversation with the locals and the bartender even bought me a couple of drinks as thanks for my riveting drunken conversation skills. Either that or she wanted me, but I think the first explanation makes a lot more sense. Confused

The next night we continued the bar hopping and wound up at a place called In De Wildeman which has a huge selection of beers from around the world. Met a couple from Ohio who were a trip! The dude was a drunk but is actually a biochemist. The woman was disappointed that there were no cocaine bars, despite the fact that they are about 45 and have 2 kids.. Not judging, but they were just bizarre....

The next day, our Dutch friends came to stay with us and we indulged ourselves in a day and night of drinking and smoking which my tolerance was not prepared for. Train wrecked again...

Today we went to the Keukenhof which is a giant botanical garden specializing in bulb flowers and has a nice windmill. Very beautiful place. After that we went to the beach at the North Sea which is a pretty different kind of beach than you are thinking of. It is fucking cold. Next it was off to the Hague which is a pretty cool city that has a nice mix of old and new. Drank a bunch of Hoegaarden and had some pretty strange but good Middle Eastern food.

Tomorrow we are off to Rotterdam, the windmills, and the giant retractable sea walls that protect southern Holland from being flooded by the North Sea. They are one of the 7 marvels of the modern world.

Thats all for now.. Smile

Well, my trip is wrapping up here and I will be heading home on the 25th. Haven't really had much of a chance to go beer hunting lately. In fact, I have pretty much been drunk for the last 4 days - ever since my brother-in-law showed up.

I did manage to review about 50 beers while I was here. I was hoping for about 75 - oh well...

Its been a great trip, but I am really looking forward to getting back home..
