I have added a Gluten Free category to the beer database under the "Specialty Beers" category. If you are not familiar with gluten free beer, here is a brief synopsis. Gluten is a compound found in many grains including wheat, barley, rye, oats, etc. Gluten free beer is made for those with Celiac disease and contains no gluten. Celiac disease is an awful lifelong autoimmune intestinal disorder. Those with the disease damage their small intestine everytime the ingest gluten which leads to a whole host of problems. In the last few years, an increasing number of brewers have began creating gluten free beers so that these people can at least hope to enjoy something close to a beer.
Because gluten free beers contain no wheat, malts, rye, etc., I felt that a separate category should be made because of the vast differences with other styles. This is the first site of its kind to make this distinction, although, I would imagine the others will follow suit eventually. _________________ I drink to forget my blackouts. |

Me too.. And I am very glad that I don't have Celiac disease.. That would suck for a lot of reasons..
I tried my first gluten-free beer the other night (I think it was called Toleration) and it wasn't as bad as I expected. _________________ I drink to forget my blackouts. |
